I wasn't always a money expert.
As an actress, I struggled with money. I was in an industry that glorified working hard to “earn” your place. But I wondered if financial struggle was really a prerequisite to success.
I started to get curious about money, and the statistics I learned bothered me:
- the average American adult aged 38–43 had an average of $5,000 in their retirement savings account. And for those aged 44-49, the average was $13,000.
- more than 50% of small business owners in the U.S. said they were just 3 months away from closing down if there was a crisis.
- less than 25% of Americans expected a comfortable income when they retire.
