Katherine Pomerantz, Accountant, Coach, and CEO
Katherine, actress turned accountant, has capitalized on her artistic background to create Money Storytelling – a mindset and accounting tool that helps business owners find creative fulfillment and sustainable wealth. She firmly believes that every creative idea has the ability to change the world if given the right financial support and opportunity. She leads a virtual accounting firm at The Bookkeeping Artist (BKA) and her expertise has been featured by VICE Media, Chime Bank, Discover Card, The Penny Hoarder and the Stacking Benjamins Podcast. She loves yoga, walking her dog, and throwing rad birthday parties.
Bree Bovay, Tax and Payroll Specialist, Bookkeeper
Bree’s background in Public & Tax Accounting is a perfect fit for her role as BKA’s Tax & Payroll Specialist. She is passionate about tax law and enjoys using her knowledge and skills to help small business owners succeed. Originally from South Dakota, Bree met her husband on her first deployment to Afghanistan. Over ten years later, her family of four now resides in the hills of Western Pennsylvania. Bree appreciates the refreshing perspective that BKA brings to finance with strategies tailored to each individual business owner to help them master their money story and thrive. Bree’s favorite pastimes including jogging, laughing, and making memories with her family.
Anne Christiansen, Executive Assistant
Anne’s background is in arts marketing. After many years of working with classical musicians, artists, and audiences, she’s thrilled to be contributing to the success of BKA clients who are building their creative businesses. Ever curious about the world and people outside of her home office, Anne has collected wonderful perspectives and memories during several residencies overseas, in Norway, Germany and Australia. She’s a music lover and a frequent patron of symphony orchestras and chamber music ensembles – and is on stage herself as an alto in the local community chorus. Anne is Katherine’s assistant, covering all kinds of essential tasks ranging from scheduling to prospective client calls.
Paige Dutcher, Onboarding and Clean-Up Specialist, Bookkeeper
Paige has a degree in finance. It was working at a bank where she first learned what a business owner does, what they need, and how they work. After school, she continued studying bookkeeping, accounting, and marketing in a self-study program that continues to this day. Paige enjoys working at BKA for the challenges it brings her and the space it provides to work with great people. She treasures the team and the lifestyle at BKA which allows her to travel. Besides Paige’s everchanging office space, she loves to get outside, spend summers on The Great Lakes in Michigan, and learn about the world by exploring as much as possible!
Jill Shallet, Onboarding and Clean-Up Specialist
Jill Shalett found her love of bookkeeping by helping small business owners organize their financial information. While raising her young children, this part-time freelance work eventually became a wonderful career as Jill discovered she has a knack for details and a love of helping small business owners with solutions on improved efficiencies and workflow. Jill is originally from Saginaw, MI and graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Family Community Services. Jill brings this background in helping others to the forefront when working with small business owners to better understand their needs and find the best solutions. Jill currently lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband, two teenage daughters, and their dog and cat. She is excited to work with BKA and contribute to the success of the company’s clients.

Valerie Ellington, Account Manager
Valerie is BKA’s Account Manager, the hub connecting BKA’s team and clients. She is a real people-person who loves supporting her colleagues and all the brilliant and diverse clients who BKA serves. Valerie left a career as a chemical engineer and to become a bookkeeper and financial strategist in order to stay true to her values and be more available to her family. She uses her professional background in project management and process development to deliver tactical, efficient solutions at BKA. Valerie can often be found at her children’s swim meets and easily stands out from the crowd in her leopard-print shoes – one of Valerie’s favorite fashion statements.

Monica Mercer, Bookkeeper
Monica enjoys working with BKA’s wide range of smart clients who are passionate about their business. Streamlining efficiency and processes is what Monica’s about – at work and at home. Monica counts herself fortunate to have been a stay-at-home mom after working in engineering as a graduate of Texas A&M. As her daughter and two sons became more independent, part-time accounting work really fit the bill for her. She’s especially happy with her BKA role, identifying with Katherine’s care for her clients and the creativity Katherine brings to guiding them on their financial journey. When not at her desk, Monica can be found enjoying time with her family, at sporting events, playing games, and, as bookkeepers can relate, on the watch for great deals!
